Dragos is a beautiful city that stretches out into the Royal Bay. The city sits on sturdy rock and projects upward, making infiltration near impossible. It is a tidal city, meaning that during the colder seasons the tide from the bay rises and causes Dragos to be an actual island only accessible by boat. In the warmer months, the tide recesses allowing for a plentiful field to appear that connects to the mainland. This field is always filled with sheep, wild horses and unicorns, and other grazing animals.
Today Dragos is home to the hundreds of young men and women that wish to train and serve in the Royal Army. The barracks here are spectacular and filled with the finest of minds, and is growing in number and depth. Though there are a large handful of locals still residing here due to feeling protected (most of these do not wish to travel into the country due to their speculations and ignorance’s or supernaturals), it is mostly consumed by knights and guards. Dragos is also known for its Coin Press, where royal currency is minted for the region.
About a mile into the mainland rests Dragons Lair, a large festival establishment filled with classic medieval entertainment. Jousting, tournaments, horse racing, gaming tournaments and more are offered here in the warmer months when the tide is recessed. It is popular for all of Athoria Region to travel to Dragons Lair to participate and watch the festivities. During the tidal months, Dragons Lair is closed for repairs and preparation for the next season.
Dragos was one of the original architectural buildings created by the Dragon Priests hundreds of years prior. The Ancient Forest protected them from the wolves of Anshega Pack to the south and their dragons protected them from any northern invaders. They were a small, evil community of people that dedicated their lives to being able to control the dragons, enslaving them. These beasts killed and hunted for them and provided the priests with blood and fur that aided in strong spells. The Dragon Priests kept many hostages at the keep in unfit conditions, using them for procreation and labor. The rest of the country kept away from this dreadful city, mostly out of fear from their incredible dragons.
When King Vinsor landed with his massive fleet on the shores of the country, he murdered every last Dragon Priest, freeing the dragons from their chains. After Franco Athor’s rebellion, Franco stayed at Dragos while the Castle of Athoria was being built. Dragos was further fortified and with came many aspiring guards and knights. As a sign of truce and respect, Franco invited friendly supernaturals to train for his army. Furthermore, Dragos constructed the first mint for currency in his new kingdom. This new source of income began to spread through the entire country, inviting new ways for people to trade and purchase.
Lore: The largest controversial topic of Dragos is that there is still one dragon priest alive in the deep dungeons under the keep. Some say that this priest died many years ago, others say that Vinsor never killed any of them and that they are still out there in the world today, and some even say that the priest is transforming into a dragon and one day will explode through the island in revenge. Only a select few people from the Church of Athoria know the real answer behind the fate of the Dragon Priests.
There is still one dragon that remains in close proximity to Dragos. It can be seen on dreary, rainy and foggy days when the tides are high in winter. It circles the entire region of Athoria, mostly hovering near Dragos, and sometimes steals sheep and other small animals. It is rumored that the captured Dragon Priest controls this one last dragon and this is the reason that it is still lingering around the city.
